Closing down notice
In late 2020, Catalyst Housing Limited were appointed as the developer on the St. Ann’s site. They ran a public engagement programme, and in July 2022 applied for planning permission with the aim of starting work on the site in late 2022/early 2023. In 2021, StART made the decision not to apply for the 50 community-led homes which we had fought to be included in the tender for the site; instead StART supported other groups who wanted to pursue this avenue. For a number of reasons, we feel StART is no longer the right instrument to work towards getting the best results for the community from the site. The StART membership therefore decided to close the organisation in July 2022.
Our website is here for information and for those who wish to learn how StART developed and fought for the best outcome on the St.Ann’s site for the local community.
We do not monitor this site and from the date of the closure of the organisation, there will no longer be a way to contact us.
Thanks to everyone for all the brilliant work you/we put in and a big thank you to all those throughout the UK and the world who supported our dream. You know who you are.
affordable homes for local people
StART is an organisation of local people working to make sure the St.Ann's new housing development provides genuinely affordable homes for the local community. Housing by the people not simply for the people. Latest News St Ann's Developer, Catalyst Housing Opens Community Consultation Catalyst Housing has launched a community engagement website for the St Ann’s development. Currently, the website includes some key information about the proposals in Catalyst’s bid to the GLA, and a live consultation to help shape their Community Engagement Strategy. Catalyst are asking people what aspects of the project they’re most interested in; how they prefer to get information and communicate their ideas; and how Catalyst can overcome any barriers to engagement. We encourage all our member and supporters to visit the website, give your views and share the link with friends and neighbours. Catalyst is also meeting with local community groups, and has said they will begin holding in-person events as soon as COVID 19 allows. In the meantime, they’ll send out a printed version of the current consultation to homes directly surrounding the site. Membership is open to people who live, work or have a strong connection with Haringey and are 16 or over. Membership costs £1, and you have the option to donate more if you wish.

Organisation membership is also available for local groups, please download the membership form and either email it back to us at info@startharingey.co.uk, or pop it in the post. Use the PayPal button below to submit the £1 fee.
Genuinely Affordable Homes For All
Planning permission was granted for the St Ann’s site in March 2015 for a housing development with a requirement that only 14% of the homes be “affordable”. Based on the views of the community, we seek to provide a far higher level of truly affordable, secure good quality housing for local people, especially those who otherwise can't afford to stay in Haringey.
We also want to create a development that retains the site for the benefit of the community by providing other facilities and amenities for local residents. We envision both the housing and facilities being community-led developments that are responsive to the needs of the people who live there.

We need your help
The Mental Health Trust who own St. Ann’s want to sell the land by the autumn of 2017. StART, with our team of experts, must put together a credible bid so we are the option the Health Authority choose.
We need to pay for expert help & regular running costs. We are employing a development manage & solicitors and estimate we need £1,000 a month. We have 10% of this so far, from small monthly sums. If you can give as little as £5 or £2 a month it will help to achieve our goal.
There are two ways to make regular contributions: by standing order OR by direct debit through paypal's regular payment facility using the "make this recurring" box.
If you pay by standing order the whole donation comes to StART, if you make a payment through paypal they take approximately 3% in fees, so StART receives about 97% of the donation.
Most of us can now set up a standing order via internet banking. To do this you will need StART’s bank details, so please email us and we will email them to you as soon as we can
